Although it was slow-paced and didn’t have the usual romantic fluff, this slice of life K-Drama definitely left a lasting impression on many,  as it was previously ranked the 6th most popular TV show on Netflix. Now, with the drama’s end, many fans might be wondering what to watch. So, if you enjoyed “My Liberation Notes”, here is a list of K-Dramas you can add to your watch list! Note: This list is not a ranking.

1. “Because This Is My First Life”

“Because This Is My First Life” follows awkward IT worker Nam SeHee (played by Lee MinKi) and struggling assistant screenwriter Yoon JiHo (played by Jung SoMin). Due to SeHee’s high mortgage debt and JiHo’s need for a room, the two first meet as landlord and tenant. They quickly decide to enter into a contract marriage to prevent SeHee’s parents from setting him up for any more blind dates and for JiHo to find new work. This drama depicts the real-life struggle of chasing your dreams, overcoming traumatic experiences, and finding hope despite the hardships. “Because This Is My First Life” is a lighthearted slice of life drama that stirs both laughter and internal reflection in its viewers.

2. “Black Dog”

“Black Dog” follows Go HaNeul (played by Seo HyunJin) as she pursues her dream to become a teacher. She becomes a temporary teacher and a new hire at private high school, Daechi High and is placed into the Admissions Department. There, she meets tough department head Park SungSoon (played by Ra MiRan) and popular teacher Do YeonWoo (played by Ha Jun). As the very last hire, HaNeul is thrown into the thick of it and must quickly adapt to the immense workload and the various requirements of being teachers in Korea’s competitive education system. This includes providing adequate attention to her students, the usual office politics, and striving to obtain a permanent teaching position. Whether you’re a student, working adult, or a teacher yourself, you’ll find something to relate to in this drama.   Much like “My Liberation Notes”, this K-Drama is a slow paced and isn’t overloaded with romantic fluff or a strange quirkiness. What it does have, however, is a hope and warmth that will spread throughout your entire body. Along with a moving plot, Jung HaeIn and Chae SooBin’s chemistry provide an additional nuance and sweetness to this already excellent K-Drama.

4. “Thirty, Nine”

“Thirty, Nine” follows the lives of three female friends who are, you guessed it, 39-years-old. The trio of friends are played by Son YeJin, Jeon MiDo, and Kim JiHyun who masterfully portray the struggles and joy that come with the age thirty-nine. All three of these women have a lot going on in their lives, but due to their solid support system and trust in each other, they constantly show that they’re able to overcome any obstacle. This drama also shows us the strength of unwavering friendship, ways to live life to the fullest, and the importance of self-love. The best part about this drama is that you don’t need to be thirty-nine in order to enjoy it and understand the life lessons it provides.

5. “My Mister”

For slice of life fans, and K-Drama fans in general, “My Mister” is one of the dramas to watch. Not only is it written by the same writer as “My Liberation Notes” but it also boasts the likes of Lee SunGyun and IU, who play Park DongHoon and Lee JiAn respectively. The drama follows Park DongHoon, a married man in his 40s and Lee JiAn, a temporary contract worker as they tackle various obstacles and hardships. The two form a very unusual bond of understanding and become a pillar of support for each other. The story of Lee JiAn is especially heartbreaking, extremely heavy, and can be hard to watch. However, just like the characters in “My Liberation Notes”, we see her resilience and desire to continue moving forward, despite the difficulties she might face.   If you are looking for your next K-Drama to watch after finishing “My Liberation Notes”, then these are the K-Dramas for you! Have you watched any of these dramas on the list? What are your recommendations for fans of the show?
